Phases of the Moon

A lunar phase or phase of the moon refers to the appearance of the illuminated portion of the Moon as seen by an observer, usually on Earth. The lunar phases vary cyclically as the Moon orbits the Earth, according to the changing relative positions of the Earth, Moon and Sun....I was asked to keep a 6 week journal of the moon, to illustrate verbally and visually what I see each night for six weeks of consectutive days . I will post my observations and pictures regularily. Enjoy!!

Sunday 3/20

Go figure, the last night of my Moon Phase Journal and the moon
is hiding from me! This shouldn't suprise me since it has played hide
and go seek with me before!!!! I went outside and even went for a ride on
a hunt for my final picture of the moon, and she was a no show.............this moon is making me looney...until next time, my friend.......

Saturday 3/19

Full Moon 18:09
FULL MOON!!!!!! My pictures came out like I took a picture of the sun in the night sky! You can't tell how big the moon looked to me in the pictures, but you sure can tell how bright it looked!!!! WOW!!! Super Moon!
[“Super Moon” describes a new or full moon occurring at the same time the Moon comes within 90 percent of its closest approach to Earth in a given orbit. It’s an event that happens 4-6 times a year, but according to a NASA Science News story, tonight's full moon will nearly coincide with the moon's arrival at its closest point in its orbit around the Earth, resulting in the biggest, visible full moon in North America in two decades.
"The last full Moon so big and close to Earth occurred in March of 1993,"
Next one comes around in 2029 ]

Friday 3/18

The moon was big and full, so bright and round!!! What a beautiful sight!
I wish my camera was better, I saw craters and everything tonight!!!!
The moon lit up a sky just like flash light! So awesome!

Thursday 3/17

Tonight was nice and clear, warmer than it has been and the moon
was easy to see once again! It was a bit bigger than the last few nights,
but in the picture you can't tell! Like the past few nights though, most of the
moon was in view with a small portion of it missing off the top!!!

Wednesday 3/16

Tonight was much like last night, the moon was in plain view
and looked as if someone had taken a bite off of it from the bottom though,
where yesterday it looked like someone bit off the top of it!

Tuesday 3/15

Tonight the moon was in plain view, it looked as if someone
took a bite off of the bottom of it!!!! Cool, clear night, not a cloud in sight.

Monday 3/14

Tonight I could see more than half of the moon, but through clouds.
The moon looked very bright through them though! It looked like the
bottom part of the moon was missing!
